Important! Coronavirus Update 18th March

We are living some pretty strange times right now. Two weeks ago we were mourning the loss of the lions share of our hire fleet after we were broken into. Now, still with a diminished fleet, we face the challenge of surviving a global crisis. One that few of us will have experienced anything like. At Pedal Progression, we’re taking coronavirus really seriously, not only from the perspective of our livelihoods and those of our staff but also the health and well being of our customers.

If you can’t be bothered to read this and just want to hire a bike, skip down the page a bit. There is important, must read information!

I want to stress the fact, we fully understand and believe in the power that mountain biking has, not only to increase physical health but also mental wellbeing. When the world around us is chaotic, there is nothing better than getting out for a ride in the woods, we get that. We built a business on it. This issue here is bigger than that. We have a responsibility to limit the spread of the virus and we see that as a priority.

After much thought and deliberating, we are confident that we have created an approach to hire bikes, that will give those who want it a safe opportunity to ride. The details are noted below.

We understand that the situation with coronavirus is changing very quickly and whatever plan we make today may even change tomorrow. Therefore, we will write these blogs whenever there is new news to tell from our end, be that changes to our opening hours, session cancellations, policy changes or even a full closure. Please keep an eye on our blogs here and on our social media.

Weekday Opening

Currently, due to the recent break in, we are closed for the rest of this week but open this weekend. We are unsure what next week looks like for us. We’ll keep you posted.

New Hire Bike Policy This Weekend (Sat 21st-Sun 22nd)

We will open this weekend, both days from 9-5pm. To protect our staff and our customers, we will be implementing some new policies. After risk assessing, these are mandatory and we will not sway. We believe by doing this we are opening our shop within the governments guidelines and are therefore acting responsibly. Please read carefully.

  • We would ask that ALL customers wanting to hire this weekend, pre book bikes using our online booking system. We will not be using the booking system in store.
  • Once you have booked your bike online, you will need to send a clear image of your photo ID (drivers licence or passport) to
  • You will be shown to your bike which will have had the grips, levers and seat disinfected. Your helmet will also have been cleaned.
  • There will be a strict one in, one out policy in our shop. This is the only way we can adhere to the government advised 2 metre social distancing rule in our small shop space.
  • We will not be accepting cash. All in store transactions are to be made via contactless card or PayPal.
  • If you arrive for bike hire having not pre-booked, you will be asked to book online using your phone, outside of the shop. You’ll also need to email a copy of your photo ID.
  • If you are feeling ill, in any way, DO NOT visit us. No exceptions.
  • Please wash your hands regularly during your visit to us. The toilets at Ashton Court will be open.
  • If you cannot adhere to this policy, you will be refused our service. This is for the good of you, us and all we’re in contact with collectively.

Skills Coaching

We are planning on honouring all 1-to-1 and small group sessions, where the customer feels comfortable to ride. If you have a skills session booked and would rather not attend, we can look to get you booked in at a later date. If you’d like to book a session, check our calendar for availability and please go ahead with an online booking.

Places for our public group sessions (Fundamentals & Jumps and Drops) have been dropped to just 4 people (from 8). We believe this will allow people to keep the 2 metre social distancing recommendation as made by the government. It also makes the sessions excellent value for money!

At present we also plan for our Little Rippers holiday sessions to go ahead. We may make slight organisational changes to these sessions in order to maximise safety as much as is possible.

Other Ways You Can Support Us

Like many other small businesses cash flow will be our biggest challenge over the coming months. Some people have suggested we put up a crowdfunder, or open a pot for donations but we don’t feel particularly comfortable about taking money for nothing. We’d love your support and If you’d like show this by making a financial contribution you can buy a gift voucher from us, pop in over the weekend and purchase something or buy one of our in house designed Bristol garments. That way, we all win!

Thanks for continuing to be customers of Pedal Progression. We can get through this together. We hope you understand our position at this time and we look forward to serving you and your families for many years to come.
