John Large

Head Mechanic | Shop Staff

John joined the team at Pedal Progression in April 2021 as Head Mechanic. Prior to that he worked for a number of distributors and represented some top brands including Renthal and Nukeproof among many others. With over 20 years experience of working in the trade, John has a wealth of knowledge to draw from to keep your bike and the Pedal Progression hire fleet running sweet. He can also advise on potential upgrades and perfect bike set up. Having been a Bristol resident for 16 years he also knows the local and nearby riding spots well.

John has ridden all MTB disciplines over the years and has raced a few times too. Now riding more for fun, he’s just as likely to be seen riding the local spots, as he is to be seen riding to the local park with his son in a kids seat.

Advice from John is always free and honest so give him a call if your bike needs some expert attention.

Favourite bike ever owned: I love a bike built to last so Nicolai’s and steel hardtails are a firm favourite. But any bike that’s done some miles and is cherished by its owner is cool with me.

MTB memory: Riding Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit was like a dream come true. Also speed tucking across the glacier at the Mega Avalanche a few years back was quite the thrill.

When I’m not riding: Daddy daycare, DIY, cooking, collecting records, allotmenting, renting out a quirky camper. I’m a busy guy!

Trailside bodge: I once ziptied a snapped chain back together to ride home. Worked OK as long as you didn’t put much power down.

You wouldn’t know this about me: I have a BSc in Social Policy from University of Bristol.
